It is through eye contact that your feelings are communicated to others. Eyes benefit more from specialized makeup techniques than any other facial feature because of their attention. Make the most of your eyes by learning a few simple eye color application techniques to add drama to your looks and enhance your image. Conservative ladies will limit themselves to save eyeshadow colors such as beige, neutral, warm pink and blue. For those who enjoy exploring with eyeshadow colors should not miss out on this one. We call it the Smokey Look using the black eyeshadow color.
Black eyeshadow color is always considered the classic color. When applying eyeshadow, remember that dark colors give a shadow of effect, while light colors are used to highlight. Eye shadow can be applied with a brush, sponge applicator, cotton wool or your fourth finger. Never compete with yourself! Eyeshadow should complement skin tone, hair color and eyes.
Using a brush, stroke cream or powder buff color eyeshadow onto the entire eye lid, intensifying the color from centre out. Apply the same color onto the outer lower eyelid. With vanilla eyeshadow color which is for a day look or a shimmering silver grey eyeshadow for an evening outing, apply it on the inner eye lid and blend towards the outer eye lid. You can either use black or charcoal grey eyeshadow and press it onto the outer corner of your eye, creating an inverted V. Slowly, gently blending it inwards and upwards to the socket of your eyelid and blend in well moving to the front of eye lid. Keep the colour more concentrated and wet looking toward the lash line and a bit more subtle and sheer towards the crease. Remember do not sweep the eyeshadow because the eye shadow will fall out onto your face. With the same black or charcoal grey eyeshadow, line it at the outer lower eye lid. Lastly, use a white eyeshadow and dab it below your eyebrow above the black eye shadow as highlight. You can choose a shimmering white highlight.
Get Smokey black eye kohl and run a fine line as close as possible to the eye lash starting from the outer eye lid running towards the inner eye lid. Run the black eye kohl along the lower eye lid and smudge it using a sponge applicator. The secret to a Smokey look is all in the blending. You should not see any hard line on this look.
As a finishing touch, apply a black mascara onto the upper and lower eye lash, go for a natural colour lipstick and you have a Smokey look.
Tips for a lasting eyeshadow:
- Powder eyeshadow – This form a base for the color and absorbs any moisture on the eyelid.
- Apply a Cream eyeshadow – Apply on top of your foundation and is set with face powder will give you a lasting effect.
- Stick eyeshadow – Usually greasy and has to be set with powder.
- Eye crayon – Subtle eyeshadow which can be used to line the eyes, shadow them or pencil in extra eyelashes.
If you feel the black is too heavy then highlight it with a lighter colour over the black eyeshadow.
